U-No Bar

November Candy of the Month

The U-No bar started off as a West Coast candy, dating from the 1920s and invented in a kitchen in the suburb of Oakland called Alameda. The kitchen was in the home of a man named George Cardinet, whose candy company soon grew enough to merit its own factory on the East Bay mainland, Cardinet Candy Company. Annabelle Candy Company acquired Cardinet and the U-No brand in 1978.

The U-No — the origin of its name lost to history —  was unusual. U-No is a smooth candy bar with a rich, milk-chocolate, truffle-like center, covered with milk chocolate and ground almonds… It is comparable to a 3 Musketeers except it has a much higher fat content compared to 3 Musketeers with a much thinner chocolate shell and more moussy nougat.
